The Coalition Advocating for Pesticide Safety Ventura (CAPS-805), based in Oxnard, was founded in 2017 Our work has directly resulted in policy victories, including a glyphosate ban on public land in Santa Barbara Unified School District, and has built local knowledge, engagement and leadership.

The CAPS-805 coalition is strong and growing, with dozens of members and a regular presence in Sacramento. Previously, Ventura went unrepresented on the pesticide issue at the state level. Thanks to CAPS-805 pressure, the Ventura County Agricultural Commissioner agreed to run a local pilot pesticide notification project in the Oxnard community of Nyeland Acres, one of only four in the state. Feedback from that pilot led to a stronger statewide proposal, expected to be implemented in 2025.
